A Look At Our Day
Movement and Play
Activities to get us moving and grooving:
- Write the Room: Sight word work becomes more exciting when we get to walk around the room to locate and write our sight words of the week. We never know where we are going to find our words.
- Phonics and Math: We practice phonics and math skills by playing games with a partner. Not only are we working on academic skills, but also how to follow rules to play a game, how to work together and socialization skills.
- Dramatic Play: Our day includes a free choice time. Our dramatic play center features different ways for students to use their imagination using our pizza oven, restaurant, kitchen, store, puppet theater or house center. Centers change bi-monthly.
- Wiggle Breaks: We have 2 wiggle breaks built into our day; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We love to use the following website to get our bodies moving: www.gonoodle.com/
- Playground: We are blessed to have 30 minutes of recess everyday. Our playground provides equipment for students to develop their gross motor skills as well as develop their balance skills, eye-hand coordination and social skills. Our monkey bars will develop our students upper-body strength, our balance beams will develop balance skills, our swings will work on students ability to shift their weight from the front to the back to help propel them into the air. The open fields will find students playing organized games such as soccer and kick ball.
- Dance: Dance stimulates the brain. We close our day with a dance party. The music promotes freedom of movement as students move their bodies to the music.
